Well, theoretically, combining qubits gives you exponentially improved computing power for starters. IBM have already built the first quantum computer (5 atoms), and were proposing a commercial application (10 atoms) this year. The main applications of qubits would be encryption, decryption, modeling, databases, voice recognition, structure recognition and artificial intelligence. There's some allegedly freaky possibilities of instantaneous information transfer, since quantum theory predicts that two "entangled" particles will share identical states - i.e. if you alter one particle's state, the other's will change instantaneously, no matter where it is in the universe (theoretically).

Regarding the theory, and how it would actually apply to a Quantum Computer - qubits are stored in registers that are represented by quantum phenomena like electron spin or photon polarization. A particle with an up spin represents a 1 and the same particle with a down spin represents a 0. Or, a photon with parallel polarization is a 1 and the same photon with perpendicular polarization is a 0. However, due to the (theoretical) nature of quantum mechanics, quantum particles don't exist exclusively in one state, rather they exist in a superposition of states. So, a qubit register can store both a 1 and 0 simultaneously—two qubits can represent 00, 01, 10, and 11—all at the same time. Hence, as I said above, as you add registers, the number of numbers you can store grows exponentially, as does the power of your computer.

I imagine that if this sort of technology is viable in the near future it would be terrific for modelling real world processes and phenomena, and would certainly be a boon to the sort of research which this site supports.

You got me curious about this. Here's an interesting link re IBM's quantum computer -

As far as I can make out, research is still ongoing, but the delicate nature of the quantum states mean they are easily degraded or "distorted" by anything surrounding the quantum bits. This is the first problem the research team must overcome if the technology is to be viable.

I have an updated scoop now and thank you for that. The qulaity of the quantum modle looks like each sides almost copies to an atom and direction. The connections are extremely similar to. Why the stick are they going to put the quantum computer in a user friendly case? I want them use the qubits for calculators first and then home/laptop/everyday computers second. I know that a calculator is an everyday computer but i am being specific. If anyone wants to help with where it should be used for first then please feel free to comment.[I know the most imporatant application should go first.]

I think a magnet will devastate a quantum computer by disturbing an delicate balance of atoms and particles. it would theoretically pull both atoms apart because if each one is affected very similary the they would be cahrged the same way(with slight differences) and repel.

i came to know about tele portation and the ideas preaveling in the western world. u talk about quatum theory, photon, etc but u never talk about the energy &force tthat will accomplish the work. let me tell u any quatum mecanized modell will not work in the earth or in any place where there gravity. the reasone is for n atom to show its property require n ABSOLUTE MEDIA.now what is n absolute media. well it is the state that depicts the requirment of n absolute to show its real property. well let me tell u briefly quoting n example, our vision ,we cannot see or feel the exact vision because our eye donot provide absolute media for what we call vision.similarly when we talk about meta aspect we always try to explain it in mechanistic way. let us accept that a mta phenomenon can never have its mechanistic equivelance. if in future technology of tele portation or any other phenomenon of meta science comes it will throuh n absolute . it will be through our inner realization and by harnessing theforces of n absolute.i look forward to any comments and calarification of my ideas

"ABSOLUTE MEDIA"
AN ABSOLUTE MEDIA IS SUCH A MEDIA WHERE A PHENOMENON C/N OCCURE AS IT IS.NOW LET ME GIVE U AN EXAMPLE.VISION... N ESSENTIAL PART OF OUR LIFE BUT IS VISSION IS WHAT WE THINK OFF? I THINK NO... VISION IS MORE VERSATILE THEN WHAT WE KNOW OF IT. WELL WE C/N SEE ONA SMALL PART OF THE SPECTRUM. THE REASONE IS MEDIUM . OUR EYE DON'T HAVE THE MEDIA TO SENSE THE FULL SPECTRUM. SOME ORGANISM R THERE THAT CAN SENSE A WIDER PART OF THE SPECTRUM. BUT N ABSOLUTE MEDIA IS SUCH WHERE THE PHENOMENON OF SPECTRUM C/N TAKE PLACE.ANY EXPERIMENT WE DO WE KEEP IN MIND ABOUTE THE ESSENTIAL EXPONENT.AN DELITING ALL OTHER BECAUSE IT BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO CONDUCT THE EXPERIMENT THEN. BUT THE NON ESSENTIAL COMPONENT TOO HAVE AROLE TOPLAY . NOW THEORETICALY IT IS IMPOSSIBLE GET AN ABSOLUTE MEDIA BUT N ABSOLUTE MEDIA CAN BE EVOLVED FROM ITS LOWER COMPONENT . DO U KNOW IN INDIA ANCIENT SCIENCE IS MUCH MORE ADVANCED THEN WHAT IT IS TODAY. THE PHENOMENON OF TELEPORTATION WAS ACTUALLY POSSIBLE THEN. THE REASONE IS DEVLOPE MENT OF N ABSOLUTE MEDIA INSIDE THE HUMANE BODY. THE PHENOMENON CAN NEVER BE EXPLAINED BUT IT CAN BE REALIZED. THAT WHY WE CALLOUR ANCIENT A MYTH. AS A JOB UN DONE LET US GET TO THE PHENOMENON LET US REALIZE ITTHEN GO FOR N EXPRIMENTAL PROOF.
quote:

quote:

let us accept that a mta phenomenon can never have its mechanistic equivelance

{/quote]

Science is about demonstration and proof, not dogmatic acceptance of either truth or falsity.

if in future technology of tele portation or any other phenomenon of meta science comes it will throuh n absolute

Could you explain a little more your concept of n-absolute?
