Before making any comments, what was the photographic technique used? The dark spots could be cooler regions heavily contrasted by the zones around.MV

Here is what the article says: "The new images were made possible with adaptive optics, a system in which deforms mirrors to correct for atmospheric blurring."

Also, I noticed the link above was wrong. It is now corrected.

I have not seen adaptive optics till now can astrionomers user that foer great distances? If our sun if a huge mass of black matter then how would we test that? Ok I think a goof picture is of the the four quadrants on the link.

The sun's mass works out spectroscopically as containing He and H. Gravitationally the mass verifies closely the amounts of mass predicted. In the MM, dark matter doesn't have to exist to make things work. I think the spot is merely a sun spot on the surface

The sun spot observation is what I was going to suggest and thought better of it since I have no idea what a sun spot is. If they are only spots to you maybe you can inlighten me as to what they are, thanks.

Sunspots are the result of magnetic convergences. Since the sun is in the plasma phase and plasmas are charged particles, then they can be influenced by magnetic phenomena.
