How does my theory work? Firstly, it is not Compton effect but Mossbauer.
I treat IG plasma as a transparent medium and apply the same physics.

basically when light travels through a transparent medium it is absorbed and re-emitted by the electrons in the atoms of the medium - and does this in a straight line. The same happens in IG space but here the electrons can recoil.
Some of the energy of the photon has been lost to the recoiling electron so the energy of the photon has reduced, the frequency reduced and the wavelength increased. It has been redshifted.
