My pareidolia knows no bounds.

I found the manual for my Coolpix L5 online. Here's the info on the Face Recognition system:
Face-Priority AF
The cameras ability to detect faces depends on a variety of factors, including whether or
not the subject is facing the camera.
The camera will focus continuously until a face detected.
If the yellow double border blinks when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the
camera was unable to focus. Release the button and try again.
If no face is recognized when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the camera
focus is on the center of the frame.
The camera may be unable to detect faces in the following situations;
- When faces are partially hidden by sunglasses or other obstructions
- When faces take up too much or too little of the frame
When face-priority AF recognizes one or more faces with shooting in tall orientation, pictures
are displayed in tall orientation when played back in the camera monitor.
====================================================================================================
I just tested it at my computer with images of faces.
It finds this with no problem, almost instantly:
It can't find this, no matter how long I try.
And oddly enough, it can't find this either, or any other smiley face, with nose, mustache or whatever:
Can't find either of these faces, no matter how much I blow them up, shrink them, isolate them. Can't find them:
Any comments or suggestions?

I think the manual answers the question. Distance from the camera does not appear to be the issue.
On the monitor it will find tiny real faces or big real faces.

<b>[rderosa] "Any comments or suggestions?"</b>
Only number three surprises me.
Perhaps it is because the eyes are tall and narrow. Or the face is a circle.

I thought something like that too, but after trying about 10 different smiley faces, I'm not so sure.
What really surprises me is the Mt Rushmore faces. I have to look through my files to see if I have one a little more straight on. I don't know if I have any because that would require being in a hovercraft to take the picture.
One thing, though, I'm a lot more impressed with the algorithm than I thought I would be. And somehow, I doubt if it's going to find pareidolia (ressler) images, although it's possible it might catch some of Neil's images.

In the Rushmore faces, the shadows around the eyes remind me of sunglasses.
