Hi Duane,
I at least am courious as to what axioms or concepts you feel are mandated.

Hi Mac,
Thanks for reading my long winded post. I am hoping to get active participation, you know, get that imagination going and come up with one and we'll discuss it. Does the following statement disturb you?
Deeply buried in our subconscious, are many incorrect preconceived notions and assumptions about <b>space</b>. It is not an easy process to identify all of the assumptions we make not being aware that we even make them. These <b>assumptions are applied </b><b>unknowingly </b>and limit our ability to study or even think about it.

DWB,
HeHe. I would have to say your first assumption is false. That is that all people have such preconcieved notions.
Speaking for myself (and I think perhaps Tom and others) that dare venture out of the rut, we thrive on new ideas and insights and don't rely on spoon fed ideas of others but develope our own.
We would not be nearly as effective if we tried to mold what we observe around some preconcieved notion. I develope my notions from what I see and interprete.
I would quickly agree however, that a majority do indeed function from a basis of preconcieved notions. Most seem unable to think outside the pages of print fed them in school by their elders.[]

Which ideas are incorrect and which ones are true by your lights?
If we acquire notions about space in infancy (preconceived), why do you think that they are incorrect?
Do you mean that we are inherently mentally deficient?
How does one know which ideas are incorrect if one's tool of cognition is defective?
;o)

DWB,
My above comments were instantly coincident with thoughts about trying to have a logical discussion with a Relativist or Creationists.

Ever notice that when you are going rapidly down a staircase that if you blindly let your body do its job it generally goes down the stairs okay? Now go rapidly down the stairs again and concentrate intently on the process of moving your legs in the right way so that you know exactly what you are doing, I can almost gaurantee you are going to take a tumble. Sometimes blind assumptions keep you alive!
