About particle halflife-You say protons are forever particles. They can be made in machines so why can't they be unmade? If they are unmade the halflife of a proton gets close to zero rather than 10E34 years or what ever number is being used these days.

Hi
if elysons are the the light carrying medium and they ARE particles, in which medium do THEY reside?

Gregg, The SLAC makes protons from beams of energy and has been doing it for 25 or 30 years or so I have been lead to believe. I may have the wrong info about this so you could ask the webmaster at SLAC about this detail. As best as I remember "W" particles are made and they decay into protons or something like that. I guess other machines like CERN around the world do this too but I don't keep up to speed on any of the activities.

If true, this is the greatest accomplishment in the history of the Universe. A "beam of energy" is simply mass in motion. Since everyone is screaming about how protons are made of upside and downside 1/3 and 2/3 quarks, should we assume they have an ample supply of these fractional quarks? Perhaps I missed a course in metaphysics in college.

In the mid80s SLAC was making "Z" particles that I was told decay into protons. I don't know any more than that but why not asy the SLAC guys? Or if you want ask the CERN guys. I'm often wrong about this stuff and always in doubt so don't rely on my memory. What does metaphysics have to do with real particles? What is metaphysics?
