What about just using air to move the load and pressurizing the whole thing. Then you dont need nanotech or balanced loads.

It is the same fundamental design as a drive thru bank teller machine. The system could be metameric with independent systems to prevent accidents and ensure against catastrophic failures. Air pressure can be regulated against a maximum load both up and down.

Nasa says according to tech TV news that they need better materiasl to build the space elevator, so we need development in strong and light materials.

If you are talking about using air pressure or suction don't forget you have to input energy to get any work out of it. Frictional losses of the gas moving through tubes over that distance would be prohibitive.
