You might want to start spending some time on a few nano technology discussion sites. (sci.nanotechnology at Google Groups, Foresight Institute, Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, etc.) They are doing the ethics thing in a big way.
Nano tech is comming, sooner than most of us will be ready for. Those of us that survive will live in a golden age where we are for all intents and purposes gods. But getting there is not going to be easy.
Meta tech may some day be approaching fruition (as nano tech is today) and at that time people should and will start worrying about ethical issues related to it. But for now it is way too theoretical to justify more than an occasional worry.
