Where did you get the info that the Universe has a core and has an edge.
There is no centre or edge or age.
As for being cold. I do no think so. Hot and cold go hand in hand. Most of the matter that exists is in high density plasma that is found mostly in blackholes and inner cores of stars.

Albert Einstein said that we had a slighltly open and closed universe. Plotemy said that the earth was a perfect shape the circle. Cosmic Background Radiation gives us an edge; as far as the eye can see. Eienstein's universe was two arc upside down of eachother if you extend the arcs they become perfect circles. A way to measure wether or not it is a sphere is to measure the distances of comsmic background radiation in relation to where the big bang started.

I understand where you are coming from.
Years ago people thought that if we looked into deep space say 13 Billion years we would see the start or the birth of the universe.
In recent observations this was found to be incorrect. And the same people said we cannot explain and that we expected the birth and not existing galaxies.
So!!! keep on observing and do not lock yourself into ideas of the past mistakes and ideas.

I once had this theory that if there was a big bang there would be a place observable in our universe that would be void of all matter because of the force of explosion in free space would cause it to fly in all directions fleeing from it's starting point.
