Larry Burford,
I did provide details: the energy output n of a nova n the no. of megatons in an erg or joule, but I didn't specify the numbers. I didn't mention, tho, the mass of a nova. Anyways, if we use those bases, which I think are sound, we come up with a mln. trln. trln. megatons or a trln. trln. teratons (basically a firecracker![)]).

LB, What you seem to be saying (although not clearly claiming) is gravity is a theory. I see gravity as a force unrelated to anything you might conceive and it is that force which determines what is and is not possible in all events. If gravity allows then it is possible. If not then its not. No deep do-do in the middle-I guess no middle at all for that matter.

I see gravity as a force related to things like mass and distance and it is that force which determines the way each mass behaves in the presence of all other masses.
No deep do-do.
***
Note that neither of these is stated in a way that lets it be called a scientific theory.

<b>[Solar Patroller] "your statement ... requires qualification, i.e., no specific mechanism is known for them."</b>
I thought that is what I said. I am sorry for the confusion.
We see explosions in space on a regular basis. If planets do explode (possible, even likely IMO) then some fraction of the explosions we have seen were planets. They should be the ones on the small end of the size range. I wonder if anyone has done an analysis of all nova events with that in mind?

Tom might have been able to answer a question like this off the top of his head. He was first and foremost an astronomer.
If not, he would have known how to get the answer. I could stab around in the dark on the 'net (and actually have) but probably wouldn't be using the right magic incantation so the search spell I was casting would not work right (and it hasn't so far).
I sure miss him.

The best theory of gravity is that it is a manifestation of, n is associated with, EM, as proposed by Tesla, LaViolette, n Puthoff n co.
TVF was not so young, but he should have been with us several more years at least, if only for the expertise you point out, LB.
