Alan, if you're getting unwanted email notification every time someone responds to certain topics, categories or forums, click the link to "my subscriptions" at the top of the page, and unsubscribe to the offending items. If you mean that you want to terminate your membership, I can't help you.
Larry, I see how one may unsubscribe to forums, categories and threads; I don't see how one can terminate a membership.

Terminating a membership is a manual process. All you have to do is ask, and we will "pull your plug".
Once or twice we have pulled someone's plug for cause (they violated one of our basic rules "trash the message if you can, but never the messenger"; "science and especially astronomy topics only") We always give an offender a chance to put things right before going to this option and that is usually how this situation is resolved.
