<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=2 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>[Jim]: The false statement above is the result of putting the finger I type with in gear before engaging the brain. It is quite a confusing statement even if I know what I meant.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
The important point that your statement seemed opposed to is this: As seen from a hypothetical observer on the Sun, the orbit of most comets is a circle around the sky. -|Tom|-

Not at all that-what I meant was if all the radiants were put on one line the motion would be in and out much like a yo-yo. And what I find interesting about that is the period and semimajor axis still is as per Kepler's third law. This is a 2:pi ratio for whatever that is worth for the distance traveled by the comet from a mostly round to a mostly straight on orbit which of course is hypothetical and can't happen except in the math.
