M1801660 enlarged clip, photoshop dodge tool used

I occasionally find black splotches hiding things of interest so I decided to use the photoshop dodge tool to remove some of the blackness from the middle of the image. I discovered another example of Martian landscape crawling up over the white lines of the close-up box. Perhaps there is another explanation but on the face of it this looks like deliberate image sanitizing. If there is nothing up there to hide why would it be necessary to cover up part of the image with black marks? The image also appears to have been overlayed with a patterned screen.

Another dark area that looked like it might be hiding something.

In the enlarged clip below possible structural shapes were revealed after using the photoshop dodge tool to remove some of the darkness.

Inverted clip below:

There are some shapes in this image resulting from artifacting. However the artifacting is running in lines that are at a slight diagonal to the actual shapes that might be structural.

Tommy,

I agree with your observation. The appearance of the face joined with a constructed-looking base adds up to a high probablility of artificiality.

Found this information at www.suppressedscience.net/mars.html

quote:
Despite its lack of lateral symmetry, the formation still looks strikingly artificial in the 2001 picture. The "platform" on which the face rests exhibits a high degree of regularity - straight, parallel lines on the left side, the parabolic arc of the "headdress" whose axis of symmetry is parallel to the straight sides and intersects the "nose" and whose lower perimeter is linear and orthogonal to the sides, an approximately linear outer perimeter on the right side that is parallel to the lines on the left and another arc at the bottom whose symmetry axis is once again parallel to the sides. How such features could be produced naturally is a mystery. Flowing lava spreads out radially and does not produce parallel straight lines on two of the sides and arcs on the two other sides orthogonal to that. The idea that wind or water erosion could have produced such geometry seems even more far fetched.

The McDaniel Report quotes engineering Geologist James Berkland, a former geologist for the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation on this subject:

The so-called "Face on Mars" is unlike any natural feature I have ever seen or heard about it. To ascribe this feature of such symmetry and uniqueness to 'wind erosion' is to plead a special case for a geologic process with no supporting evidence.

Skyscrapers on Mars?

What the Heck is this?

At first I thought the anomalous area looked like bands of noise. But they seem too three-dimensional to be noise bands. Additionally, noise bands usually run straight through the entire image. These shapes look like they have definite tops and bottoms. On the left side these shapes appear to recede and blend into the natural terrain in a way that makes them appear not to be artifacts. Someone at another board suggested that this area of architectural looking shapes is just the result of image fallout. I cannot claim to be a world expert on image artifacts and image fallout but I can say that I have spent a good deal of time looking at and processing the Mars images (over 6000 hours) and I have run across many areas of image fallout but I have NEVER seen an area of fallout that popped up with shapes like this when processed. One of the shapes even appears to be tapered at the top much like some of our skyscrapers on Earth. There are a number of other areas in the image that also look artificial.

Maybe the anomaly in this image is the result of someone at JPL fooling around. I went back to the Mars Orbiter Archives to pull this image up by number and double check it and came across two variations, one upside down. The anomaly isn't clearly visible on the archived images unless the image is darkened in photoshop. I want to take a closer look at these images and compare them but don't have time tonight.

The upper left area of this anomaly seems to blend in with the landscape, with the landscape actually overlaying it in such a way that the anomaly appears to be an intregral part of the image and not an artifact. There is also the suggestion of additional structures at the tops of these shapes. I am really not sure what to make of the spectacular artificial-looking shapes in this image. Perhaps they are some aberrant type of image artifact. And perhaps not. A careful analysis and discussion from a qualified and unprejudiced expert would be welcome.

Tommy,

There is a book, "Martian Genesis", that reports on early studies and research done by a number of respected scientists and researchers, all of them came down in favor of the artificiality of the face. I also happened to see the paper that was published by DiPietro about the face. The detail they were able to pull out was amazing and quite convincing. Unfortunately someone borrowed my copy of this paper and never returned it. I have been unable to locate an additional copy.
