Aug. 23 Oxleaze Copse, near Stitchcombe, Wiltshire: Oct. 8?

This consists of 20 small circles in a square (or diamond) augmented by an additional 4 in the corners, making 24 small circles, total. There is a large circle at the center. There are 9 lines running diagonally one way between pairs of small circles and 1 line running perpendicular to those.

Every small circle intersects only one line, except for two small circles which intersect two lines. So the numerical value of the formation might be

2*1 + (24-2)*2 = 46

which is the number of days from Aug. 23 to Oct. 8.

Aug. 26, Hackpen Hill (3) near Broad Hinton, Wiltshire: Oct. 8 or 9?

Though this formation was reported Aug. 26, maybe it was made Aug. 25: Aug. 25 + 44 days = Oct. 8. Each face has 9 edge squarelets whose arrows aim toward the center (toward the viewer if the cube perspective is appreciated) and 20 - 9 = 11 edge squarelets whose arrows aim away. Each "arrow" is made from 4 tiny blocks:

11*4 = 44

That is, "It's 44 blocks [days] away."

Everything else about the design might be for high redundancy, so the design can be reconstructed reliably, if the message is jammed or defaced. Some analysts tend to "make it more complicated than it is."

This crop formation might be authentic. The shape of the wheat heads of its affected plants, is said to be characteristic.

July 1 crop circle at Waden Hill, nr Avebury, Wiltshire: day count to Oct. 8

There are, in a sense, 10*6 = 60 petals, but only 8*3 = 24 of these petals, are not shared between two flowers. So there really are 24 + (60-24)/2 = 42 petals.

There are 18 interior spaces completely enclosed by the petals. There are 15 exterior spaces not completely enclosed by the petals. So there are 18+15 = 33 spaces.

Finally there are 24 exposed tips of ends of petals.

24 tips + 33 spaces + 42 petals = 99

and July 1 + 99 days = Oct 8.

The number of exposed tips is the same as the number of outer edges of the formation, if the small gaps between the exposed tips also are counted as edges. So 99 is simply the number of faces plus the number of edges.

May 19 crop circle at Uffington White Horse, near Woolstone. Oxfordshire: Oct 8 again

I don't know what the outer two disks of this formation (the disks attached to the inside of the outer ring) mean. The two disks attached to the large central disk, signify Earth's position as viewed from the Sun (or just as well, the Sun's position as viewed from the Earth) on May 19 (the date the crop formation appeared) and Oct 8.

I chose one of the photos from the website

cropcircleconnector.com

and corrected the vertical distances using a quadratic correction formula that would make the width of the ring equal to the height, and also make the thickness of the ring the same at top and bottom. Measuring from the printed photo and making this correction, I found that the angle between the two inner disks differs less than half a degree, from the change in Earth's heliocentric ecliptic longitude between 0h May 19 and 0h Oct 8.

April 28, 2012 crop formation at Yarnbury Castle near Winterbourne Stoke, Wiltshire: Oct 8 again

This crop circle shows a crescent disk with six arcs below it. The arcs are staggered as if each one were half of something.

The number of days from April 28 to Oct 8, is 163, which is

163/27.3217 = 5.966 sidereal months, or

163/29.5306 = 5.520 synodic months

So, the date is six sidereal months before Oct 8, signified by the six arcs; or, 5 1/2 synodic months, which is hinted by the half arcs.

Let's make the above more precise, using the JPL ephemeris. Actual local midnight at nearby Stonehenge, i.e. the Sun's most negative elevation, is 00:04.5 GMT April 28. Luna's Right Ascension then, observed from Stonehenge (resp. geocentric) is 112.094 deg (resp. 112.689 deg). Six sidereal months later, the R. A., observed from Stonehenge (resp. geocentric), recurs at 18:35 (resp. 19:46) GMT Oct. 8. Alternatively, Luna's ecliptic longitude observed from Stonehenge at 00:04.5 GMT April 28, is 111.126. This recurs at 18:28.5 GMT Oct. 8.

The formation addresses 5 1/2 synodic months also, by referring to lunar phase. The illuminated fraction at 00:04.5 GMT April 28 is 35.5575% and waxing, observed from Stonehenge. This corresponds to phase 73.211 deg past the new moon. Phase 73.211 + 180, corresponds to 100-35.5575 = 64.4425% and waning, but the crop formation contains an ideogram giving this phase more accurately. The crescent moon at the top is, as nearly as I can measure, about 35% illuminated. The six arcs below may be interpreted as three broken arcs filling in the concavity of the crescent. This ideogram suggests that the concavity is not completely filled in, but rather 3/4 filled in, i.e. 46.3894% illuminated. This fraction of illumination, waning, occurs at 16:57 GMT Oct. 8.

July 17, 2012 crop formation at Juggler's Lane near Yatesbury, Wiltshire: Oct 8 again?

Paul Jacobs and Lucy Pringle are veteran crop circle researchers; at least I recognize their names. On cropcircleconnector.com, Jacobs has an article saying that he and Pringle found many classic bent stem nodes here, characteristic of the truly mysterious, not hoaxed, crop circles.

This formation is simply a 12-petaled flower surrounded by a hexagon. Suppose each line of the hexagon symbolizes a reflection, that is, a mirror image of the flower, as in a tiling. In other words, each line of the hexagon is a ditto mark. Then the total number of petals symbolized, would be

12 * ( 1 + 6 ) = 84

and July 17 + 84 = Oct 9

This formation was on flat ground far from any major road. So, though it is said to have been reported July 17, maybe it was formed a day sooner. If so, then July 16 + 12*7 would be Oct 8.

Addendum Sept. 26: I got the idea that the formation might represent hexagonal tiling, from an image by "JW" on www.cropcircleconnector.com , shown under "comments".
