June 9 (reported) crop formation at Woodborough Hill, Alton Barnes, Wiltshire: signifies Oct 8
From the sky atlas, I find that only four first magnitude stars lie near enough the ecliptic to be occulted by Luna: according to www.astro.wisc.edu , in order of brightness these rank Aldebaran, Antares, Spica, Regulus (Antares is only slightly brighter than Spica on average). The two most obvious ways to define sidereal months, therefore would be by Luna's conjunctions with Aldebaran and Antares. These two stars also have the distinction of being almost exactly 180 deg apart in the sky, so conjunctions with Antares are almost synonymous with oppositions with Aldebaran, and vice versa.
A report on www.cropcircleconnector.com , says that although this formation was reported June 9, the heliotropic response (regrowth toward the sun) seen in the stems, indicates that it was formed several days earlier. In June, days are long in England and growth is rapid, so I'll assume that the formation was made June 8.
June 8 is 122 days before Oct 8, i.e. 1/3 year, because 365.25/3 = 121.75. Each of the three "fish" of the formation, signifies 1/3 year. The "heads" of the fish resemble the old U.S. Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) "eye" logo. The lunes of the "eyes" and the size of the "pupil" thereof also suggest the fraction 1/3. Two of the "eyes" contain the highlighting pair of triangles; these are the two thirds of the year prior to Oct. 8, 2012, that already had passed. One "eye" lacks the highlighting pair of triangles: this is the third of the year remaining until Oct. 8, 2012.
This remaining future (unhighlighted) eye, has six appended disks, marked by triangular highlights as two groups of three. This correlates with the number of whole sidereal months within this third of a year, defined either as whole periods between conjunctions with Aldebaran, or with Antares.
The other two (recent past) thirds of a year, contain either three whole sidereal Aldebaran months and four Antares, or four Aldebaran and three Antares. (I define conjunction according to Right Ascension.) Disregarding the faint hollow disk at the end of one of the "fish" (the meaning of this partly formed disk is uncertain to me) each of the "fish" representing past thirds of the year, has appropriately a group of three disks and a group of four, as marked by the pairs of triangles.

Sept. 5 crop formation at the Ridgeway, near Overton Hill, Wiltshire: Oct 8 and signature of an Egyptian Goddess
There is a famous triad statue of the Old Kingdom pharaoh Menkaure (a.k.a. Mycerinus) with Hathor on his right, and on his left the Goddess of Egypt's 7th precinct ("precinct" = "nome"), the nome of Diospolis Parva. See "Ancient Egypt, Discovering its Splendors" (National Geographic Society, 1978) pp. 82, 83. This Goddess has a small, large-headed imp above her. The imp's curved horns resemble upside down J's. The imp's head resembles the letter O. The key beneath the imp (an ancient Egyptian key which looks like a brush to us) resembles the letter F. So, here is the famous signature, "FOJ" which is found not only in this crop formation, but which also, according to Paul Jacobs, is "something seen in CCs several times before from 1999 onwards".
The heart shape symbolizes the equinox. The cusp of the heart serves the purpose of making it impossible to quantify precisely the length of the line segment on the opposite side of the heart from the tadpoles. Measuring on my videoscreen from Jerry Reilly's image on www.cropcircleconnector.com , I find that this segment is at least 55mm but not more than 64mm, depending where I define its end at the cusp of the heart.
For the line segment between the tip of the heart, and the circle, I find length 50mm. The final line segment, from the circle to the circle's center, is 22mm. This ratio 50:22 = 2.273 is corroborated by the ratio of my measured perimeter of the heart, to that of the circle, approx. 2.344.
This crop formation was discovered Sept. 5, so presumably would have been formed earlier than about 07h GMT, Sept. 5. According to the JPL ephemeris, the equinox was 14:49 GMT, Sept. 22, and the New Moon (smallest geocentric illuminated fraction) will be 12:27 GMT, Oct. 15. Thus the time of entry into the circle, is approximately
equinox + 50/(50+22) * (New Moon minus equinox)
= 12:30 Oct. 8
where my 0.5mm maximum rounding error for the smaller, 22mm measurement, corresponds to an error of 158 minutes.
The line segment on the cusp side of the heart, signifies that the crop circle was formed no later than
equinox - 55/(50+22) * (New Moon minus equinox)
= 17:46 GMT Sept. 5
and no earlier than
equinox - 64/(50+22) * (New Moon minus equinox)
= 21:04 GMT Sept. 2
Repeating the first calculation, replacing 50/(50+22) with the corresponding values for the heart and circle perimeters, i.e. 2.344/(2.344+1), I find
16:05 GMT Oct. 8
in good agreement with times indicated by other crop formations.
The three tadpoles above, and three below, the main line, symbolize the morning stars Luna (a morning star after Sept. 30), Venus and Jupiter; and the evening stars Mercury, Mars and Saturn, during the interval Sept. 22 - Oct. 8. Uranus is a morning star until Sept. 29 and an evening star thereafter.
This crop formation lies not only parallel to, but often within, the tire tracks. It seems to be aligned exactly east-west, again suggesting the equinox.
The final crop circle of the season, discovered Sept. 7, listed on www.cropcircleconnector.com , is the simplest of all: one disk, with the characteristic central spike of truly mysterious crop circles. It is one simple final message: goodbye and good luck.

The circlemakers' strategy
Why don't the circlemakers just give us a simple countdown? Tallies of 100, 99, 98, etc., days to Day Zero?
This is why: the circlemakers have various adversaries who make disinformational crop formations, and intercept or deface the formations of the circlemakers. The formations defeat these adversaries through two strategies:
1. High redundancy, so that altered or effaced formations can be reconstructed.
2. Riddle-like quality, requiring the massively parallel information processing "Gestalt" psychology of biological intelligence to interpret. This helps the intended recipients of the message, the biological life forms on our planet. It hinders the main adversaries of the circlemakers: the machine intelligence of the space probes sent here by rival civilizations.

First crop circle listed on Lucy Pringle's website: Oct. 2012
The very first crop circle listed in the crop circle photo library of Lucy Pringle's website, www.lucypringle.co.uk ,
was reported July 11, 1990 at Alton Barnes, Wiltshire. A similar crop circle, but with grossly different angles, was reported at a nearby location the same day and is the second crop circle listed in Pringle's library. Pringle calls the first one "possibly the most famous crop circle of all".
Apparently the first one is information and the second is disinformation. The first crop circle formation represents the geocentric ecliptic latitudes of Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun on or about Oct. 8, 2012.
This formation is parallel to "tramlines" (what most U.S. farmers call "wheel tracks") which usually are oriented in cardinal directions, either NS or EW. A small Mercury and above it, a larger Venus appear in Pringle's photo as unadorned disks. Above Venus is Earth, whose disk is denoted by a triple (three-pronged forked) flag as the third "inferior" planet. The orientation of the base of this flag, signifies Earth's heliocentric longitude, i.e. the opposite of the sun's geocentric longitude.
JPL ephemeris geocentric longitudes at 17h GMT Oct. 8, 2012:
Sun 196
Jupiter 76
Saturn 210
Mars 241
At the very top and out of alignment with the other planets, are a small ringed disk possibly signifying Uranus, and an even smaller disk possibly signifying Neptune. Not so near the top as those, are large disks connected by a bold line, denoted by either a double flag (Jupiter, the second "superior" planet) or boldly ringed and with a triple flag (Saturn, the third "superior" planet). If Earth's flagpole is at 196 - 180 = 16 deg, then Jupiter's and Saturn's flagpoles are near 76 and 210 deg, resp., measuring clockwise (instead of the counterclockwise convention of math books). Because Pringle's photo is oblique, the angle between the Earth and Jupiter flagpoles is stretched to appear greater than 76-16 = 60deg; and the angle between the Jupiter and Saturn flagpoles is compressed to appear less than 210-76 = 134deg.
The other boldly ringed disk is Mars. It is connected to Earth by a bold line plus two outrider lines for emphasis, indicating some kind of interaction between Mars and Earth. The oblique photo stretches the angle between Saturn's flagpole, and the Earth-Mars line, to appear greater than the actual 241-210 = 31deg.
Addendum Sept. 30: the small mark almost opposite the flag on the Saturn disk, could signify the line of nodes of Saturn's rings.

Aug 14, 2001, Milk Hill, Wiltshire crop formation corroborates Oct. 8, 2012 date
This formation (see Lucy Pringle's archives) has been described as Julia set, but the resemblance might be mere accident. The circlemakers contrived this way of presenting a large number of disks with high redundancy in case the message were damaged.
The number of disks, counting the center disk, is 409, a prime number. The number of days from the discovery date, Aug. 14, 2001, to the date Oct. 8, 2012, is
11*365 + 3 leap days + 61 - 6 = 4073, also prime
Note
4073^2 is congruent to 289 modulo 409
and
409^2 is congruent to 288 modulo 4073
This is not the quadratic reciprocity theorem, though there is a superficial resemblance. It seems that this relationship between 409 and 4073 allowed the circlemakers to represent 4073 in a more economical and slightly cryptic way.

Top 5 things to do to get ready for Oct. 8:
1. Dig a trench
2. Get an uncoated fiberglass welding blanket (Sellstrom, Tillman) or several
3. Stockpile water (also get a Berkey water filter if time allows)
4. Get a dog (Samoyed is a good choice, but there are many others; retrievers are better at pulling loads than shepherd dogs are)
5. Get away from the ocean
