I agree with nemesis, most astronomers are going to run a mile from any mention of the Mayan long count. I still think that the guy, Bigilow, I think it is, is the man to see. He does offer a million dollars for anyone that can find planet X. I presume finding can mean point your scope here.

Sloat, The point is Dr Joe did the math and his calculations show a body of some mass is effecting the solar system. So, either the math is wrong or the body in fact exists. No one seems to question the math and no one can find the body. A puzzlement having nothing to do with the long count and other distractions that have entered along the way.

Hi Jim, the problem is, that it needs a big telescope to find this thing. Up to now the only images have been with relatively small ones. Getting astronomers to target the body is going to be difficult enough but talking about ancient calenders in the letter of approach, is probably not the best way to go about things. There are quite a lot of new metre diameter telecopies coming on line at the moment but the competition to get time on them is always going to be tough.

Sloat, You are assuming the calculated body is really there or nearby-I don't make that leap. We both assume the calculations are correct which might not be the case. It would be great if existence of the body could be proved by observation but maybe there are unknown errors in the model being used by Dr Joe. Either way its a win for Dr Joe if its ever determined which result is right. Things like this upset the apple cart and the pros have no interest in that result.

Hi Jim, I'm not sure what you're after here. All I'm saying is that it's best to write a letter of approach to the people who own telescopes, that doesn't raise eyebrows. Not only would I not mention the stuff about the Mayan calendar but I wouldn't even say what I believed the mass to be. I'd just say something in the eighteenth mag.

I suppose one idea might be to approach the "ice-cube" telescope in Antarctica. The first large scale neutrino telescope, and it has to be the first northern sky telescope which is in the southern hemisphere! Here I would just ask them if there's anything slightly high coming from the constellation Crater.

Hi Sloat, Your idea looks really good-so why have you not done it? Why don't you just contact them about your idea?
