Simply put, the universe is wide and vast, it's been here for as long as we can remember. Why would we wish to even know the origins? Curious minds, perhaps? The point is that even if we did know exactly how it formed and when, that's all it would be. We wouldn't be able to do anything with it. We would just be able to say "Hah! I've found the fingerprint of existance!" Nothing more, nothing less.

That's what the first cave man said of the two rocks with the holes in the center - until the second cave man stuck a stick in the holes and created the wheel.
If existence is based on a principle instead of a process - and science keeps looking to discover the process, then the progress of learning and knowledge is being retarded.

To all,
I'm probably going to delete Patrick's post. I'll let you know in a while. Religion and politics (pardon my redundancy) are interesting, but not appropriate in this message board.

Patrick - you ought to at least make a token effort to disguise your stuff.

Ahhh, com-on! Why would you want to delete me when it was Johnny who put the religious link up to begin with? I get the impression that maybe it's more PERSONAL than that.[V]

Patrick,
Decisions like this are not easy. Rousejohnny's post had some additional discussion that was close enough to science topics that it saved his post from the chopping block. Barely.
If that post had generated more response, and the responses had not moved toward science, the situation might have tipped the decision the other way.
===
Personal? Not consciously. But who knows what lurks in their subconscious mind.
Moral Of The Story - don't anger the moderator gods. We don't have THAT many rules, after all. And the ones we have are enforced with much leeway.
Regards,
LB

Patric,
FWIW I found the post I deleted to be one of your more interesting ones. It just wasn't right for this science board.
